Topics for mid-term 1 (written exam)

Hello ppl Just confirming.The following are the topics for your first evaluation. They´re the same ones discussed in class last September 5th: IPA, the linguistic sciences, speech mechanism, production of speech, the description and classification of speech sounds, vowels and consonants, general characteristics of vowels and their classification, formal description of /i/ and /i:/, general features of consonants, gradation, pronunciation of inflections,plus any other theoretical concept dealt in your classes. Sts will have to use paragraph writing in the description of vowels and consonants and not note-taking style. Besides, they will be asked to write a transcription (approximately 120 words).Topmark 20 mistakes. They´ll have to use as many weak forms as possible and some instances of elision, assimilation, glottal stop and linking "r". Please remember our exam will be starting at 12.30pm.Thank U. Take care. Subject: NO ESTAMOS DE ACUERDO CON LA TOMA DE FACULTAD DE HUMANIDADES

Hola, chicos y chicas, somos un grupo de Estudiantes de la Facultad de
Humanidades, no participamos de política, es decir, no militamos en
ninguna agrupación, sólo, repito, somos estudiantes.
Decidimos enviar este mail, con la idea de expresar nuestro punto de vista
respecto a esta nueva TOMA DE LA FACULTAD DE HUMANIDADES.
Nosotros y nostras NO ESTAMOS DE ACUERDO CON ESTA DECISIÓN DE TOMAR LA
FACULTAD DE HUMANIDES. La mayoría de nosotros hace más de dos semanas que
estamos estudiando para rendir parciales, recuperatorios y finales del mes
de julio. Por lo visto esta es una historia repetida, en el
año 2009 y 2010 perdimos una fecha de final por otra toma. Lo extraño es que
los/as estudiantes que toman la Facultad SON SIEMRE LOS MISMOS, por esta
razón nos preguntamos, hasta cuando va a suceder siempre los mismo. Alguien
puede argumentar, ¿por qué no van a la asamblea y discuten este punto de
vista? Algunos han ido y es muy difícil acordar y consensuar con gente que
te habla a los gritos, te acusa de cosas
que no sabes que significa, en fin, no nos sentimos cómodos/as en ese tipo
de charlas. Creo que este medio, de alguna manera, queda excepta de sufrir
una mala experiencia.
Sin duda compartimos algunas cosas respecto a los derechos de los
estudiantes y de las garantías de la universidad pública, lo que no
compartimos, es que se SI ALGUIEN SEA QUIEN SEA: INSULTA, AGREDE FÍSICAMENTE
A CUALQUIER PERSONA, Y MÁS AÚN, DENTRO DE UN ÁMBITO DE UNIVERSITARIO, EXIJA
LOS MISMOS DERECHOS DE CUALQUIER OTRO. Por lo tanto, creemos que cada uno
debe hacerse cargo de su propia imprudencia en un espacio universitario.
En estos momentos muchos de los/as estudiantes que viajan de otras
localidades, se encuentras pagando pensiones, departamentos y viviendo de
onda en casas de parientes y amigos, sin saber cuando se va a levantar esta
toma. Ni hablar de los/as estudiantes que trabajamos y> concurrimos a la

Toma de la Facultad de Humanidades

Esta información ha llegado a todos los docentes por mail.La re transmito:

En relación con las versiones circulantes respecto de la toma de la Facultad
de Humanidades/ UNMdP y las causas que la motivan, deseamos aclarar que:

1) En este ámbito académico todos sus actores (trabajadores docentes y no
docentes, estudiantes y graduados) siempre hemos tenido entera libertad en
el ejercicio de la expresión de nuestras ideas y legítimos reclamos.

2) Las razones esgrimidas por los estudiantes involucrados en la actual toma
son engañosas. En realidad esta toma deriva de la implementación de la etapa
declaratoria dentro de un sumario encuadrado en la OCS 822, relativa a
“Reglamento Disciplinar UNMdP”. El expediente de
referencia obra en Rectorado UNMdP (Asuntos jurídicos).

3) La apelación a la norma se inició por denuncias de autoridades,
consejeros académicos y no docentes de esta Facultad. Dichas denuncias se
formalizaron a raíz de las acciones violentas –físicas y/o verbales-
ejercidas en contra de personas y bienes materiales de esta Facultad a fines
del ciclo académico 2009.

4) Luego de un año y medio de comenzado el proceso sumarial, los once
estudiantes citados a declarar (involucrados o testigos) no reconocen la
gravedad de tales acciones. Por el contrario, y en perjuicio de toda la
comunidad universitaria, difaman y extorsionan con medidas coercitivas
como la presente toma, impidiendo de este modo el normal desarrollo de las
actividades académicas: tareas administrativas, dictado de clases de grado y
posgrado, gestión de becas, toma de exámenes, sustanciación de concursos,
etc.

5) La mayor parte de los estudiantes de la Facultad afectados por esta
decisión de un grupo, se han expresado en contra aunque fuera del ámbito
asambleario que dicho grupo convoca: allí no se les permite permanecer,
expresarse o se los amenaza (enviamos un mail recibido)

Lamentamos comunicar a la comunidad universitaria que la Facultad de
Humanidades se encuentra tomada por un grupo de estudiantes. Se ha
constatado que algunos de los accesos están obstaculizados debido al
amontonamiento de sillas y se ha labrado el Acta correspondiente.

Dichos estudiantes se oponen a la investigación sobre los hechos de
violencia sucedidos en diciembre de 2009, que se lleva a cabo en el marco
de la normativa de nuestra Universidad (nacional, pública y cogobernada)
para tales casos. Iremos informando por este medio el desarrollo de esta
situación, bregando por la convivencia responsable y sin violencia entre
todos los actores de la Facultad.

Written/oral make up -exam No. 1

Just to let you know that your written make -up (both theory and transcription) will be on May 30th (Monday group at 12pm) and May 31st (Tuesday group at 10 am)as previously scheduled on syllabuses.

Oral Mid-term exam #1

Dear students

The list with the groups for the oral mid-term exam has already been posted on the notice board at departamento. You should write your names for the date that best suits you but please respect the top number of students for each group. For the oral mid-term exam you’ll be tested on the following material

• Get Rid of Your Accent: lessons 1 to 13 and 15..
• Weak Forms: from dialogue 1 to 25
• Pronunciation In Use: Units: 2, 6, 7, 11
• How Now Brown Cow: Dialogues 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40

If you happen to have any questions or doubts about the oral exam please ask me in class on Monday.

Bear in mind that you won’t have regular classes only on the days and timetables used for the oral mid-term exam.
