Topics for 1st mid-term exam

Dear sts

 1. These are the topics for the written mid-term exam:

• History of IPA
• Phonetics and Phonology
• Homophones/homographs
• Minimal pairs. Counterparts
• Speech mechanism/Organs of speech
• Pronunciation of inflections
• Vowels (general characteristics)
• Formal description of front vowels; short and long o; inverted v
• Weak and strong forms (gradation) 

2.  You´ll also have a transcription (about 120 words/Topmark: 20 mistakes).

3. Date for the written exam: Tuesday 13th.
4. Lists together with the dates and topics for the oral exam will be posted next week.
  (We´re   starting   with orals on May 19th).
