To all my classmates:

I recommend you to use the Liquid Paper Dryline. At the bottom you got a link in which there are some pictures. It is great for an exam situation such as the dictation we´ll have soon and it is not very expensive. I strongly advise trying it several times before the exam, on the contrary it won´t help you at all for it is a delicate tool.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Cardinal Vowels

As I was browsing the net, I came across this video in which Daniel Jones pronounces the eighteen Cardinal Vowels, being these parameters with which language-specific vowels are compared so as to describe the latter’s quality and articulation accurately.
I've been wondering if you could watch the video and tell me whether his pronunciation is accurate and whether I can include them in the mid-term exam when describing English Pure vowels.

Vocal Folds

I have also found this video which displays how vocal folds and the arytenoid and thyroid cartilages function when uttering different sounds.
I believe the images are quite illustrative and I hope my fellow classmates will find them interesting and useful(as I did) and not too creepy. :D

Last, but not least, I would like you to have a loOk at (and sing, why not?) the Phonetic Rap Yo, written and performed by a student (Stacey) as her final project for her phonetic course.
I'm sure you will find many words/ phrases/ concepts/etc that will ring a bell.
BTW, this is her email address (nelsonsl87@aol.com), you can contact her, she's really cool.

You’ll find the lyrics in the info beside the video. :D

Lucrecia Ferreyra dijo...

Hi!
I'm Lucrecia and I'm afraid to say that my surname is written with y, like Ferreyra. It may lead to confusion I know, but then in my "Libreta del Estudiante" will say another thing..

The video with the Cardinal Vowels is very nice! :)

Susan dijo...

Got it Lucrecia.Don`t worry.

Take care.
Susan

hi, I have a message from a student (Barbara Blanco) and this has nothing to do with the mid-term.
She handed in the second set of transcriptions and when she got them back, she didnt see a P for pass or F for fail, she could only see a message that said something like missing activities. We checked it with Prof. Cosentino at the Lab session and we could not find a missing activity, just one word she may have not seen. She wants to know whether she passed or failed that set of transcriptions because if she failed she has to hand in the fourth.
if it helps she could bring the set to the mid-term and afterwards you would check it with her.
thanx.
Sofia Bonecco

Laura dijo...

Dear Sofía,

Barbara does not need to hand in the fourth set if she did the previous ones. She should carry out the corrections and hand the papers in again.
Take care,
Laura

Professor Susan:

As I'm not sitting for the final exam as I told you last week, I'll be able to attend my regular classes on Tuesday.
Thanx!
See you
